ܘܚܙܘ ܕܟܡܐ ܣܓܝ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܒܐ ܠܘܬܢ ܕܒܢܝܐ ܩܪܢ ܐܦ ܥܒܕܢ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܥܠܡܐ ܠܐ ܝܕܥ ܠܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܦܠܐ ܠܗ ܝܕܥ
yde lh d'pl' mTl ln yde l' elm' hn' mTl ebdn 'p qrn dbny' lwthn d'b' khwbh sgy dkm' wkhzw
See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܗܫܐ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܚܢܢ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܬܓܠܝ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܗܫܐ ܡܢܐ ܥܬܝܕܝܢܢ ܕܢܗܘܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܡܐ ܕܐܬܓܠܝ ܒܕܡܘܬܗ ܗܘܝܢܢ ܘܚܙܝܢܢ ܠܗ ܐܝܟ ܡܕܡ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ
d'ythwhy mdm 'yk lh wkhzynn hwynn bdmwthh d'thgly dm' dyn ydeynn dnhw' ethydynn mn' lhsh' edm' 'thgly wl' d'lh' khnn bnwhy hsh' khbyby
Beloved, now we are children of God, and it is not yet revealed what we will be. But we know that, when he is revealed, we will be like him; for we will see him just as he is.

ܘܟܠ ܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܥܠܘܗܝ ܗܢܐ ܣܒܪܐ ܡܕܟܐ ܢܦܫܗ ܐܝܟ ܕܗܘ ܕܟܐ ܗܘ
hw dk' dhw 'yk npshh mdk' sbr' hn' elwhy lh d'yth 'yn' wkl
Everyone who has this hope set on him purifies himself, even as he is pure.

ܡܢ ܕܝܢ ܕܥܒܕ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܥܘܠܐ ܣܥܪ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܓܝܪ ܟܠܗ ܥܘܠܐ ܗܝ
hy ewl' klh gyr khTyth' ser ewl' khTyth' debd dyn mn
Everyone who sins also commits lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.

ܘܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܗܘ ܕܐܬܓܠܝ ܕܢܣܒ ܚܛܗܝܢ ܘܚܛܝܬܐ ܒܗ ܠܝܬ
lyth bh wkhTyth' khThyn dnsb d'thgly dhw 'nthwn wydeyn
You know that he was revealed to take away our sins, and in him is no sin.

ܘܟܠ ܕܒܗ ܡܩܘܐ ܠܐ ܚܛܐ ܘܟܠ ܕܚܛܐ ܠܐ ܚܙܝܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܝܕܥܗ
ydeh wl' khzyhy l' dkhT' wkl khT' l' mqw' dbh wkl
Whoever remains in him doesn’t sin. Whoever sins hasn’t seen him and doesn’t know him.

ܒܢܝ ܠܐ ܐܢܫ ܢܛܥܝܟܘܢ ܗܘ ܕܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܙܕܝܩܐ ܗܘ ܐܝܟ ܕܐܦ ܗܘ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܙܕܝܩܐ
zdyq' 'ythwhy mshykh' hw d'p 'yk hw zdyq' zdyqwth' debd hw nTeykwn 'nsh l' bny
Little children, let no one lead you astray. He who does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

ܗܘ ܕܣܥܪ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܡܢ ܣܛܢܐ ܗܘ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܢ ܪܫܝܬܐ ܗܘ ܣܛܢܐ ܚܛܝܐ ܗܘ ܘܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܐܬܚܙܝ ܒܪܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܕܢܫܪܐ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܕܣܛܢܐ
dsTn' ebdwhy dnshr' d'lh' brh 'thkhzy hn' wmTl hw khTy' sTn' hw rshyth' dmn mTl hw sTn' mn khTyth' dser hw
He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. To this end the Son of God was revealed: that he might destroy the works of the devil.

ܟܠ ܕܐܬܝܠܕ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܚܛܝܬܐ ܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܡܛܠ ܕܙܪܥܗ ܒܗ ܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܘܠܐ ܡܫܟܚ ܠܡܚܛܐ ܕܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ ܐܬܝܠܕ
'thyld 'lh' dmn lmkhT' mshkkh wl' 'ythwhy bh dzreh mTl ebd l' khTyth' 'lh' mn d'thyld kl
Whoever is born of God doesn’t commit sin, because his seed remains in him; and he can’t sin, because he is born of God.

ܒܗܕܐ ܡܬܦܪܫܝܢ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܕܐܠܗܐ ܡܢ ܒܢܘܗܝ ܕܣܛܢܐ ܟܠ ܕܠܐ ܥܒܕ ܙܕܝܩܘܬܐ ܘܠܐ ܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܠܝܬܘܗܝ ܡܢ ܐܠܗܐ
'lh' mn lythwhy l'khwhy mkhb wl' zdyqwth' ebd dl' kl dsTn' bnwhy mn d'lh' bnwhy mthprshyn bhd'
In this the children of God are revealed, and the children of the devil. Whoever doesn’t do righteousness is not of God, neither is he who doesn’t love his brother.

ܕܗܢܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܐ ܕܫܡܥܬܘܢ ܡܢ ܩܕܝܡ ܕܬܚܒܘܢ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ
lkhd khd dthkhbwn qdym mn dshmethwn pwqdn' dhnw
For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another;

ܠܘ ܐܝܟ ܩܐܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܐܝܬܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܫܐ ܘܩܛܠ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܘܡܛܠ ܡܢܐ ܩܛܠܗ ܐܠܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܝܫܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܘܕܐܚܘܗܝ ܙܕܝܩܝܢ
zdyqyn wd'khwhy ebdwhy hww dbyshyn mTl 'l' qTlh mn' wmTl l'khwhy wqTl bysh' mn hw' d'ythwhy hw q'yn 'yk lw
unlike Cain, who was of the evil one, and killed his brother. Why did he kill him? Because his deeds were evil, and his brother’s righteous.

ܘܠܐ ܬܬܕܡܪܘܢ ܐܚܝ ܐܢ ܣܢܐ ܠܟܘܢ ܥܠܡܐ
elm' lkwn sn' 'n 'khy ththdmrwn wl'
Don’t be surprised, my brothers, if the world hates you.

ܚܢܢ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܫܢܝܢܢ ܡܢ ܡܘܬܐ ܠܚܝܐ ܒܗܕܐ ܕܡܚܒܝܢܢ ܠܐܚܝܢ ܗܘ ܕܠܐ ܡܚܒ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܡܩܘܐ ܒܡܘܬܐ
bmwth' mqw' l'khwhy mkhb dl' hw l'khyn dmkhbynn bhd' lkhy' mwth' mn dshnynn ydeynn khnn
We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.

ܟܠ ܓܝܪ ܕܣܢܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܩܛܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܗܘ ܘܝܕܥܝܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܕܟܠ ܕܩܛܠ ܐܢܫܐ ܠܐ ܡܫܟܚܝܢ ܡܩܘܝܢ ܒܗ ܚܝܐ ܕܠܥܠܡ
dlelm khy' bh mqwyn mshkkhyn l' 'nsh' dqTl dkl 'nthwn wydeyn hw 'nsh' qTl l'khwhy dsn' gyr kl
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.

ܒܗܕܐ ܝܕܥܝܢܢ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܠܘܬܢ ܕܗܘ ܝܗܒ ܢܦܫܗ ܚܠܦܝܢ ܘܐܦ ܚܢܢ ܙܕܩ ܠܢ ܕܥܠ ܐܦܝ ܐܚܝܢ ܢܬܠ ܢܦܫܬܢ
npshthn nthl 'khyn 'py del ln zdq khnn w'p khlpyn npshh yhb dhw dlwthn khwbh ydeynn bhd'
By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.

ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܠܗ ܩܢܝܢܐ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܘܢܚܙܐ ܠܐܚܘܗܝ ܕܣܢܝܩ ܘܢܐܚܘܕ ܪܚܡܘܗܝ ܡܢܗ ܐܝܟܢܐ ܐܝܬ ܒܗ ܚܘܒܗ ܕܐܠܗܐ
d'lh' khwbh bh 'yth 'ykn' mnh rkhmwhy wn'khwd dsnyq l'khwhy wnkhz' delm' qnyn' lh d'yth w'yn'
But whoever has the world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does God’s love remain in him?

ܒܢܝ ܠܐ ܢܚܒ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ ܒܡܠܐ ܘܒܠܫܢܐ ܐܠܐ ܒܥܒܕܐ ܘܒܫܪܪܐ
wbshrr' bebd' 'l' wblshn' bml' lkhd khd nkhb l' bny
My little children, let’s not love in word only, or with the tongue only, but in deed and truth.

ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܫܬܘܕܥܝܢܢ ܕܡܢ ܫܪܪܐ ܐܝܬܝܢ ܘܩܕܡ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܗܘ ܡܦܝܣܝܢܢ ܠܒܢ
lbn mpysynn hw dn'th' wqdm 'ythyn shrr' dmn mshthwdeynn wbhd'
And by this we know that we are of the truth, and persuade our hearts before him,

ܕܐܢ ܗܘ ܠܒܢ ܒܣܪ ܠܢ ܟܡܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܪܒ ܡܢ ܠܒܢ ܘܝܕܥ ܟܠܡܕܡ
klmdm wyde lbn mn drb 'lh' km' ln bsr lbn hw d'n
because if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things.

ܚܒܝܒܝ ܐܢ ܠܒܢ ܠܐ ܒܣܪ ܠܢ ܓܠܝܢ ܐܢܝܢ ܐܦܝܢ ܩܕܡ ܐܠܗܐ
'lh' qdm 'pyn 'nyn glyn ln bsr l' lbn 'n khbyby
Beloved, if our hearts don’t condemn us, we have boldness toward God;

ܘܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܫܐܠܝܢܢ ܢܣܒܝܢܢ ܡܢܗ ܡܛܠ ܕܢܛܪܝܢܢ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܘܫܦܝܪܬܐ ܣܥܪܝܢܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ
qdmwhy serynn wshpyrth' pwqdnwhy dnTrynn mTl mnh nsbynn dsh'lynn wklmdm
and whatever we ask, we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do the things that are pleasing in his sight.

ܘܗܢܐ ܗܘ ܦܘܩܕܢܗ ܕܢܗܝܡܢ ܒܫܡܐ ܕܒܪܗ ܝܫܘܥ ܡܫܝܚܐ ܘܢܚܒ ܚܕ ܠܚܕ ܐܝܟ ܕܦܩܕܢ
dpqdn 'yk lkhd khd wnkhb mshykh' yshwe dbrh bshm' dnhymn pwqdnh hw whn'
This is his commandment, that we should believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and love one another, even as he commanded.

ܘܐܝܢܐ ܕܢܛܪ ܦܘܩܕܢܘܗܝ ܒܗ ܡܬܢܛܪ ܘܗܘ ܫܪܐ ܒܗ ܘܒܗܕܐ ܡܣܬܟܠܝܢܢ ܕܫܪܐ ܒܢ ܡܢ ܪܘܚܗ ܗܝ ܕܝܗܒ ܠܢ
ln dyhb hy rwkhh mn bn dshr' msthklynn wbhd' bh shr' whw mthnTr bh pwqdnwhy dnTr w'yn'
He who keeps his commandments remains in him, and he in him. By this we know that he remains in us, by the Spirit which he gave us.
